Description
This is a six week course of the first six chapters of the text, A Young Peoples History of The United States. Weekly discussion of each chapter. An optional selection of videos & comprehension questions will be added weekly.
Students will leave with a greater appreciation of US History being told from the perspective of various marginalized groups. Chapter Titles for the first 6 weeks are:
- Columbus And The Indians
- Black And White
- Who Were The Colonists?
- Tyranny is Tyranny
- Revolutions
- The Women of Early America
REQUIRED TEXT
The student needs a copy of the text “A Young People’s History of The United States” by Howard Zinn. If reading is a challenge, please let me know and I will provide a link (no cost) to the book being read aloud on YouTube.
TIME COMMITMENT
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 – 2 hours per week outside of class.
PARENTAL GUIDANCE
This text covers the history of the United States often from the perspective of the marginalized. Topics of racism, gender inequality, and the economically disadvantaged are discussed in depth.
